Summary

Jacopo Goldoni was born in Vyz during the false calm before the Demon-Siege of Vyzantium in the fourteenth year of the Rain of Filth. Like so many of his contemporaries, his birth was the result of the city running out of contraceptive herbs affordable to the masses. His mother was a mushroom-gatherer working for the city, his father a member of the Vyzanti militia.

Jack (as he was called,) was ten when the demons pouring through from the Rift Sea laid siege to Vyzantium. By his twelfth birthday, he’d joined the portal corps - an extension of the city watch that patrolled the streets and tunnels of the city looking for demonic incursions through teleportation. That same year, his company stumbled over a pack of goblins coming up from the depths of Mount Vyz and the two groups exchanged blows with a half dozen dead on either side.

He continued to serve on with the portal corps until the Orassai broke the siege in 4 DB. At 15, he signed up with the Orassai Expeditionary Force for the establishment of Thalassa and the eventual battles against the Logetti.

A master sergeant in the OEF by 8 DB, Jack volunteered for the campaign to liberate Shiya and was attached to Starfall Company. There, he fought six long years against goblins, demons, and anyone else who resisted the establishment of humanity’s grip on that island chain. With the Force ready to pull most of its forces off Shiya in order to break the siege on the the Ring Cities, Jack and his company took the opportunity of a demon ambush to “go native” and stay on Shiya.
