The Sunstone, originally known as the Essential Stone was one of the four Essential Gifts. Given to Queen Cyrene, it was a radiant source of energy that allowed her to become a powerful sorceress while leeching magic into the previously unmagickal world.
At the end of her life, Cyrene brought it to Caldera Lake and sank it beneath the waves, then founded the Caldera Academy and the Sunstone Wardens to be caretakers for it.
At the behest of First Warden Oros, the wardens retrieved it in the twenty-fourth year of the Cataclysm, brought it to First Daybreak, and set it atop the Sunspire. As humanity regains control over Tierra, its placement becomes the causus belli of two wars until, in 53 DB, Oros shatters it, dying in the process and shattering the Sunspire.
