Earliest Colonists

The earliest human colonists in what are now the Cenwulf Protectorates were largely fishermen migrating from the interior with the first villages being founded during the Silver Age around 900 FYA. The trading village known as Zendui Haitan was founded in 1037 FYA by the Dragons of the Claw as a brooding ground and embassy to the Jakani, rebels within the Han Empire. It remains the oldest continuously-inhabited human settlement on Tierra and is currently known as Western Sanctuary.

Pre-Cataclysm History

Before the Cataclysm, the area that's now the Cenwulf Protectorates was considered the "ass end of the world"--the last region of human settlement before you approached the Dragonfires. The region was most commonly called Simroh, although the meaning of that word is lost in antiquity.

Kingdom of Cenwulf

The Kingdom of Cenwulf was founded in 3616 FYA during the Age of Kings and was part of the Shattered Kingdom. It was annexed by the Vestari Empire in 3810 without a fight. Because the king agreed to join the empire, Cenwulf's borders remained intact throughout the reign of the Vestari Emperors. It eventually became a favored dumping ground for the Lich Emperor to send nominal allies who'd become too powerful for him to be comfortable keeping them around Tearra. Given time, he would have invariably found an excuse to purge Cenwulf, but he was killed in the Cataclysm.

The Cataclysm

When Tearra was first destroyed, no immediate effects were felt in Cenwulf and many argued that it was a western problem. It was almost two years before the first of the Twisted Rain fell on the Kingdom of Cenwulf. Shortly thereafter, floods and earthquakes became routine. Millions died during the nine-year winter. King Clement Devereaux eventually invaded his eastern neighbor, Tallende and moved his capital to Ayel La Cidaj in 4921 FYA. When he did, he formalized the flight of Cenwulf's greatest magic-wielders and consolidated the Cenwulf efforts at survival.

With his best minds gathered at Ayel La Cidaj, Clement was able to crate an oasis of a few million acres and feed almost a million people through the long winter.
