Summary

One of the Gaveks of Hagiv, North Gavek was first founded in 115 DB as the town of Cayhold and a direct competitor to Richport, the port farther south that was rapidly becoming an inland city as the waters around Hagiv receded.

It is currently one of only two legal ports in and out of Hagiv and the seat of the Vass Family.

The Economic Engine of Hagiv

The tension between North Gavek and Szasz is largely tolerated because the Revolutionary Council can't pay its bills without the trade North Gavek brings in. North Gavek merchants pay approximately 500,000 gold per year in taxes to the government. This is paid in straight specie.

Payment used to be made once a month via a caravan that would bring 40-50,000 gold to the capital at once. It was heavily armed and armored with 100 men at arms and a contingent of wizards to keep it safe and no one ever managed to steal the payment, but there were several rather spectacular attempts resulting in heavy casualties. In 571, North Gavek switched over to two deliveries a day of 300-2,500 coins depending on the season. This is known as the North Gavek River of Gold.
