Summary
Kaza Orok, also known as Orchome, is the chain of islands that make up the northernmost part of the Rim. While it does have a human population, far more numerous are its humanoids: goblins, hobgoblins, first orcs, orcs, bugbears, twisted dwarves, duergar, twisted elves, gnolls, trolls, kobolds, merfolk, lycanthropes, and giants.
In spite of many attempts to conquer it for its rich supply of gold and manatite, Kaza Orok has remained independent since the Cataclysm.
Society
Because it has been in a near-constant state of war for the last 600 years, Kaza Orok is a very militant society. Empress Utikka, First of Her Name ruthlessly enforces a draft that requires all citizens to serve when they reach the age of maturity.
Politics
Kaza Orok is made up of multiple nations, each run by a High King or Queen served by low kings and queens. Many have a well-developed aristocracy. All serve at the tolerance of the Empress.
Economics
Kaza Orok is a wealthy nation, having traded well on its bountiful gold, gems, coal, ironwood, manatite, and other natural resources. Until recently, anyone who wanted to trade anything other than slaves with Orchome had to come to those islands because their humanoid traders were often considered animals, suitable only for butchering. In recent times, the largely-human Utkin family has gained a special exemption from the draft to run Kaza Orok's trading fleet and merchant marines.
Religion
Kaza Orok has a number of religions, differing from country to country.
* Temple of Tikkala, Bathed in Blood * Cult of Empress Utikka, First of Her Name * Church of Saint Amala, the Betrayed * Church of Xi of the Gentle Death
Additionally, much of Kaza Orok has a worshipful attitude towards the dragons of the Dragonfires.
Military
Kaza Orok has a universal draft and possibly as many as a million soldiers at any given time. And these aren't your ordinary cannon-fodder humanoid. These are humanoids with cannons. Their shore guns are the most powerful built since the Cataclysm and her navy has 2,200 cannon-ships. All of her military forces are disciplined and most worship the Empress in one form or another.
They are arguably the most powerful military in the world. The "arguably" is because they are extremely light on magic-users, having maybe 12,000 top-notch wizards, sorcerers, clerics and shamans in service. They make up for this somewhat with the Corps of Artificers and many Orchome ships are equipped with one or more magic items to be used in battle.
They are currently at war with several nations of the Cap.
Culture
Kaza Orok is not devoid of culture, but it tends to favor the cruder arts - slapstick, bear baiting, gladiatorial games, bullfighting, cockfighting, slap fighting - pretty much anything that involves people getting hurt.
They also make some of the world's finest batik, world-class hallucinogenics, pollen, hundreds of variants of alcohol, and some surprisingly elaborate jewelry. Their engravers and tattoo artists are also considered first rate. They even have a few poets, but these are sort of an epic punchline everywhere, even in Kaza Orok itself.
